Why glass countertops are difficult to maintain
The glossy surface makes every detail visible.
Every fingerprint, scratch and drop of spilled liquid can be seen much more clearly on a glossy countertop than on a matte surface.
The standard, glossy matt gloss finish enhances this effect - which is why a matte finish often works better on glass.
Where the problem returns most often
Six situations typical of shiny countertops.
Fingerprints
Visible on any shiny countertop when touched.
Scratches from dishes
They are especially visible on glass under light.
Spilled drinks
Water droplets remain visible on the shiny surface long after wiping.
Light reflections
The matte finish diffuses light, reducing glare.
Dust and streaks
More visible on gloss than on matte.
The table top is lacquered in high gloss
Same effect as glass - matte mat softens it.
Matte finish - how it works
The matte 1.5mm surface scatters light differently than glossy.
The matte finish has a slightly grooved, rough surface that diffuses light - so scratches, prints and spilled drops are less visible on it than on glossy ones.
It's the same material as the glossy version - only the finish on one side differs, not the thickness or base price.
What the matte mat does not promise
Honestly about the limits of this solution.
The matte mat reduces the visibility of small imperfections, but does not remove them completely - they can still be noticed when you look very closely.
It does not change the color of the countertop underneath - the matte effect applies only to the surface of the mat, not to the glass itself.
How the mat rests on the glass
The contact of two smooth surfaces has its own specificity.
The mat lies freely on the glass countertop, without gluing - with very smooth glass it may move slightly, which is normal for this type of surface.
A matte finish further reduces this sliding compared to gloss due to the greater surface friction.
Which variant to choose
For glass and very shiny countertops we recommend 1.5 mm matt (anti-glare) - Matt finish for glass and lacquered surfaces. Also known as a textured or ribbed protector.
Prices per m²: 1.5 mm gloss - €39.00, 2.0 mm gloss - €43.00, 1.5 mm matt (anti-glare) - €42.00.

Questions about the mat for the glass top
- Will the matte mat completely hide scratches on the glass?
- It reduces their visibility, but does not remove them completely - it mainly protects against new scratches.
- Does the matte finish change the color of the countertop?
- No, it only affects the way light reflects off the surface of the mat.
- Will the mat move on glass?
- It may shift slightly on very smooth glass - a matte finish reduces this effect.
- What is the difference between 1.5 mm matt (anti-glare) and 1.5 mm gloss?
- It's the same thickness, the difference is only in the surface finish - matte vs. glossy.
- Is a matte mat more expensive?
- The price of €42.00 is determined independently of the glossy version - check the current prices in the calculator.
- How to clean a matte mat?
- Same as the shiny version - with a damp cloth with water and mild soap.
