What is the difference between gloss and matte?
Same material thickness, different surface.
The gloss finish has a smooth, transparent surface - the countertop underneath can be seen exactly as it looks.
A matte finish, sometimes called grooved, has a slightly rough surface that diffuses light and reduces the visibility of small scratches and reflections.
| Characteristic | Gloss | Matt |
|---|---|---|
| Transparency | Full as glass | Slightly scattered |
| Visibility of scratches | Higher | Lower |
| Light reflections | Clear | Limited |
| Price per m² | €39.00 (1.5 mm gloss) / €43.00 (2.0 mm gloss) | €42.00 (1.5 mm matt (anti-glare)) |
When checkmate wins
Six situations in which a matte finish works well.
Glass top
Reduces the "spill water effect" visible on shiny glass.
A desk with a monitor
Less light reflections from the screen.
Sunny place
Diffused light instead of clear glare.
The top is very shiny
Reduces the contrast between prints and a clean surface.
Want less visible scratches
The matte surface masks minor scratches.
Lower gloss finish
Aesthetically closer to matte kitchen countertops.
What stays the same
Finishing does not affect these features.
Protection against flooding
Identical in both finishes - it is the same material thickness.
Scratch resistance
The material itself is equally durable, only the visibility of scratches differs.
Assembly method
Both finishes lie freely on the countertop, without gluing.
The choice of finish is an aesthetic decision, not a compromise in protection.
What the finish doesn't change
Two things that remain independent of the choice of matt/gloss.
The finish does not affect the thickness - this is a separate decision, described in comparison of 1.5 mm and 2 mm, where 1.5 mm matt (anti-glare) is the same thickness as 1.5 mm gloss, only in the mat.
It also does not affect the shipping price or delivery time - if you are looking for details about use on glass, see mat for a glass table.
Your choice of finish can be changed in the calculator at any time before placing your order.

Questions about matte and glossy finishes
- Does a matte finish protect better?
- Not better, just different - it protects in the same way, but masks the visibility of scratches.
- Is matte more expensive than gloss?
- The price depends on the thickness, not the finish itself - check the current prices in the calculator.
- Is it possible to change the finish after ordering?
- Before shipping, yes - just contact us, after cutting, changes are no longer possible.
- Is frosted glass more frosted than regular frosted glass?
- This is a separate product - matte PVC mat has a different texture than frosted glass, but a similar optical effect.
- Which variant is better for a desk with a monitor?
- Matte - reduces light reflections from the screen.
- Does finishing affect delivery time?
- No, we cut both variants at the same time.
